Rémy Labbé is a Belgo-Luxembourgish arranger, composer, and educator, specializing in large ensemble writing and orchestral projects at the intersection of jazz and contemporary music.

A graduate of Berklee College of Music (BM 2015) and the Manhattan School of Music (MM 2018, summa cum laude, major in Jazz Composition), he studied composition and arranging under leading figures such as Jim McNeely, Dick Lowell, and Greg Hopkins.

His work as an arranger has led him to collaborate with internationally recognized ensembles, including the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra directed by Arturo O’Farrill, as well as a range of European and international projects, including the Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Ernie Hammes, the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève led by Arie Van Beek, the WE Big Band directed by Carlo Nardozza, and the Greg Ruvolo Collective.

Alongside these projects, he has also developed work in broader production contexts. In 2019, he collaborated with keyboardist and Grammy-winning artist Jordan Rudess on the album Wired for Madness, contributing an arrangement for a 7-piece horn section within a large-scale blues-rock production. The same year, he worked with Swiss illustrator Philippe Sen on two episodes of the animated series Luchien, composing big band scores in collaboration with the Big Up Band (Geneva). These projects reflect a strong interest in film scoring and interdisciplinary formats.

His writing has been praised by the press: “The same strength and clarity in his music as Bert Joris” (RTBF) and “A clever, perfectionist big band arranger” (Jazz Thing #150). His work reflects a strong focus on precision, structural clarity, and detailed orchestral writing.

Since 2025, he has been a Jazz Trumpet and Jazz Theory Professor at the Conservatoire of Luxembourg City, where he also develops pedagogical work related to ensemble writing and musical practice.

A member of the trumpet section of the Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra for the past two years, Rémy Labbé is actively involved in the ensemble’s projects as both a performer and arranger.
