David LinxNé à Bruxelles le 22 mars 1965. Chanteur, compositeur, parolier, producteur et multi-instrumentaliste. En 2005 : Nommé Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres par le Ministre de la Culture en France. Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros pour meilleur disque de jazz « One Heart, Three Voices ». Prix du Musicien Européen de l’Académie du Jazz. Prix de l’Adami pour l’ensemble de son oeuvre.

David Linx a enregistré plus d’une quinzaine d’albums en tant que leader ou co-leader et est un invité régulier dans le monde du jazz et pour d’autres projets (John Cage, M. Kagel). En 1986 il se fait remarquer en Europe et aux Etats Unis avec son James Baldwin Project A Lover’s Question avec en co-leader Pierre Van Dormael, Deborah Brown et Steve Coleman. Ce projet, avec James Baldwin récitant ses poèmes entouré de la crème des musiciens de jazz européen et américain, a été réédité en septembre 2000 chez Label Bleu/Harmonia Mundi. Le CD est accompagné d’un livre contenant les poèmes et textes (avec des inédits) en anglais et traduit en français par Hubert Nyssen, fondateur et directeur de la maison d’édition Actes Sud.

En 1992, David forme un duo avec le pianiste et compositeur Diederik Wissels. Depuis ils tournent régulièrement en duo ou en quartet et ont enregistré sept albums, récompensés à de nombreuses reprises (voir « Récompenses »). L’accueil unanime de la presse et du public depuis plus de 10 ans a fait de ce projet un des «Vocal Acts » les plus en vu du moment. Le projet Linx/Wissels est également à la base de multiples rencontres comme Heartland (sorti fin 2001 chez Universal – Choc Jazzman) avec Paolo Fresu et One Heart, Three Voices avec Fay Claassen et Maria Pia de Vito (voir ci-dessous). Signé en 2000 chez Polydor/Universal, David Linx compose L'instant d'après, réalisé à New York par Craig Street (Cassandra Wilson, Liz Wright, Jimmy Scott,…), un étonnant album de chansons françaises, accueilli chaleureusement par la presse (CHOC du Monde de la Musique, « un coup de maître… » Le Nouvel Obs….) et par le public. Puis signé en 2003 chez Harmonia Mundi, le quartet David Linx - Diederik Wissels sort l’album This Time, qui reçoit le CHOC des CHOCS Jazzman. Sélectionné par les Talents Jazz Adami 2004, le quartet s’est produit à Jazz à Vienne, au Nice Jazz Festival, au Festival International de Jazz de Montréal et à Jazz à La Villette.

La fin de l'année 2004 marque la naissance d'un nouveau projet pour David Linx et Diederik Wissels, One Heart, Three Voices avec les chanteuses Fay Claassen et Maria Pia De Vito. L’album est sorti le 26 septembre 2005 (e-motive Records / Nocturne) et a reçu le Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros, le Prix Adami et le Prix du Musicien Européen de l’Académie du Jazz, ainsi qu’un très bon accueil de la part du public. One Heart, Three Voices est en tournée en 2006/2007. Parallèlement, David donne régulièrement des masterclasses à l’occasion de ses concerts et enseigne au Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles en Belgique. David a composé depuis 1985 plusieurs musiques pour quatre spectacles de danse de la chorégraphe Michèle Noiret, et également pour Jean-Christian Chalon. Il est également producteur et réalisateur des albums du chanteur et écrivain cubain Erick de Armas et du chanteur brésilien Ricardo Teperman. En 2005, David a présenté un documentaire sur le jazz en Belgique « Jazz in Little Belgium », produit en France. En juillet 2005, il a chanté le Hymne National lors de la fête du Roi et des 175 ans de la Belgique, ainsi que pour la fin des festivités. Big band classique, composé des meilleurs musiciens de la scène locale auxquels se sont ralliés des jazzmen de la Grande Région, et accueillant régulièrement des invités internationaux, le Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra est en quelque sorte la prolongation de “Tribute to Big Band Jazz” mis sur pied par Erny Hammes pour l’édition 93 du festival du Printemps Musical. Il réunit quatre trompettistes, quatre trombonistes, cinq saxophonistes et une section rythmique, et son répertoire va des oeuvres intemporelles de Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Jelly Roll Morton, ou Duke Ellington aux compositions contemporaines et originales. Le LJO s’est produit en 2003 et en 2010 avec le saxophoniste américain Bob Mintzer ; en 2004, avec le tromboniste belge Phil Abraham et le trompettiste italien Andrea Toffanelli, en 2006 avec le tromboniste américain Slide Hampton, en 2008 avec le crooner Freedy Cole, en 2009 avec le saxophoniste américain Don Braden et en 2010 avec le trompettiste américain Jon Faddis. En 2007, le LJO a animé la cérémonie officielle de remise des Trophées Européens du Jazz Eurodjango. En 2008, le LJO a participé, à la Philharmonie Luxembourg, au requiem jazz du compositeur suédois Niels Lindberg, ensemble avec la chorale Saint Michel.

In the jazz world Bob Mintzer is a household name, usually associated with being a saxophonist, bass clarinetist, composer, arranger, leader of a Grammy winning big band, member of the Yellowjackets, and educator.

Bob has written over 200 big band arrangements spanning a 34 year career, many of which are performed all over the world by both student and pro bands. His own big band has been nominated for 4 Grammy awards and won a Grammy for best large jazz ensemble recording in 2001 with Homage to Count Basie on the DMP label. Bob has recorded 26 solo recordings with both big band and small jazz ensembles. He is  an 18 year member of the Grammy award winning band Yellowjackets, and has recorded 12 cds with them. Bob tours 4 months out of the year with the ‘Jackets’. Bob has published 4 jazz etude books (Belwin Jazz), a solo transcription book (Belwin Jazz), a saxophone method book (Kendor Music), 4 saxophone quartets (kendor music), close to 200 big band arrangements (Kendor Music, Belwin Jazz), and has composed several pieces for orchestra. His "Rhythm of the Americas" piece for sax quartet and orchestra (or concert band) was premiered in 2001 by the American Saxophone Quartet and the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. His "Concertino for Tenor Saxophone, Strings and Winds" was premiered in NYC by the St Lukes Chamber Ensemble in 1992.

Bob has had a diverse career as a free lance musician in New York City. He has recorded with people like Steve Winwood, James Taylor, Aretha Franklin, and Queen. He’s toured with Buddy Rich, Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Jaco Pastorius, Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri. He’s worked with the New York  Philharmonic, American Ballet Theatre. Bob has been on the faculty of Manhattan School of Music and recently joined the faculty of USC in Los Angeles. He performs 20 workshops at universities all over the globe annually.

Die Jazzabteilung der Echternacher Musikschule (EME) lädt ein zu einem außergewöhnlichen Konzert der EME-Bigband unter der Leitung von Maxime Bender sowie der renommierten Bigband Luxembourg Jazz Orchestra unter der Leitung von Ernie Hammes.

Die EME-Bigband wird ein Programm präsentieren, das sich an die Bigband-Ära der 30er Jahre anlehnt und Werke von Legenden wie Count Basie und Duke Ellington interpretieren wird.

Mit von der Partie werden auch eine Reihe Jazzcombos sein, die mit ihrer Vielfältigkeit die verschiedenen Facetten der Jazzmusik abdecken werden.

Also, we added some pictures from our first encounter with M. Faddis earlier this year.

For the 2010 edition of the Printemps Musical, we have the great honor to feature one of the most impressive trumpet players around. M. Jon Faddis.

At 18, Faddis joined Lionel Hampton's big band before joining the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra as lead trumpet.
After playing with Charles Mingus, Jon Faddis became a noted studio musician in New York, appearing on many pop recordings in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In the mid-eighties, he left the studios to continue to pursue his solo career, which resulted in albums like Legacy, Into The Faddisphere and Hornucopia. As a result of his growth as a musician and individual artist, he became the director and main trumpet soloist of the Dizzy Gillespie 70th Birthday Big Band and Dizzy's United Nation Orchestra; from 1992 to 2002, Faddis led the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band at Carnegie Hall, conducting over 40 concerts in ten years, during which time the CHJB presented over 135 musicians, featured over 70 guest artists, and premiered works by over 35 composers and arrangers at Carnegie Hall.
Faddis also led the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars and the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars Big Band from their inception through 2004, when he was appointed artistic director of the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, based at Columbia College Chicago in Illinois. Faddis currently (2004 forward) leads both the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, primarily in the Midwest, and the Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra of New York (the successor to the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band), primarily on the East Coast (with performances at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, the Performing Arts Center in Westchester, New York, the Newport Jazz Festival and other venues). In 1999, Faddis released the Grammy-nominated Remembrances (Chesky Records) which was composed almost entirely of ballads and featured work from Argentinian composer/arranger Carlos Franzetti.
In 1997, Faddis composed the Jazz opera Lulu Noire. Faddis appeared in the 1998 movie, Blues Brothers 2000. In the film, he plays trumpet with The Louisiana Gator Boys.
In 2006, the Jon Faddis Quartet released the CD Teranga (Koch Records), featuring guests including Clark Terry. Faddis is a first call lead player in New York City and has an international reputation for his playing ability in the full range, particularly the highest registers, of the trumpet.
Alongside his playing career, Faddis is a noted educator for jazz and the trumpet as well as a performing artist/clinican for Schilke Trumpets, manufactured in Melrose Park, Illinois. Faddis performs on a Schilke S-42L trumpet in gold-plate with slight modifications of his own design; prior to that he played a gold-plated B6L with the beryllium bell. His mouthpieces are custom made by Scott Laskey out of Lombard, Illinois.
Jon Faddis currently teaches at The Conservatory of Music at Purchase College-SUNY, in Westchester, New York; he is also a guest lecturer at Columbia College Chicago where he serves as the Artistic Director for the Chicago Jazz Ensemble. Remaining true to the tradition of honoring mentors, he also leads master classes, clinics and workshops around the world; he often will bring students along to his gigs and allow the students to sit in.
